Why "you're so smart" backfires
Carol Dweck's famous growth-mindset research found that praising kids for being smart makes them avoid challenges (a challenge might prove they're not smart), while praising effort and learning makes them seek challenges. But you can't explain that to a five-year-old. You have to show them a character living it.
Enter the Failure Festival

How to use the story at home
- Read it before the meltdown, not during. Stories are rehearsals; rehearse in peacetime.
- Borrow the language. Next time the tower falls: "Ooh — is this a Failure Festival moment? What did the tower teach you?"
- Hold your own festival. Once a week at dinner, everyone (parents included — especially parents) shares one flop and one thing it taught. Kids who see adults fail cheerfully learn that failure is safe.
The earlier this lands, the better
Sparklo actually fails twice in Season 1 — his Rainbow Machine explodes spectacularly back in Episode 1, where Brainy tells him: "Every failure teaches us something new. That's how science works!"
