Every homeschool parent has fielded The Question ("but what about socialization?") — usually from a relative, usually at Thanksgiving. Set aside the debate; here's the productive version: social-emotional skills (naming feelings, resolving conflict, listening, handling failure) genuinely do need deliberate teaching, and the homeschool format is actually superbat it — because the best delivery mechanism is a read-aloud plus conversation, and you own both.
The 20-minute daily block
Minutes 1–8: the read-aloud. One episode, full voices, interruptions welcome (that's engagement, not derailment).
Minutes 9–15: the character conversation. The cardinal rule — discuss characters, never interrogate your child. "Why did Kindra's glow go grey? Was Sparklo right to be angry?" Kids reveal everything through fictional proxies and nothing under direct questioning.
Minutes 16–20: the bridge. One connection to real life, made lightly, ideally by the child. "Have we ever had a Big Disagreement in this house?" (Oh, they'll have examples.)
A ready sequence
