Most social-emotional learning material asks a two-year-old to do something genuinely hard: name an abstract internal state using language they've barely developed. "Use your words" assumes the words already exist. They don't, not reliably, until closer to age 5 or 6.

- Whisper (green leaf) — shyness, need for quiet
- Brainy (pale blue egg with glasses) — curiosity, overthinking
- Melody (purple, music-note details) — joy, creativity
- Giggles (round orange) — silliness, nervous laughter
Parents using this with toddlers report the same pattern: the character becomes the vocabulary word. Instead of a meltdown with no language attached, there's "I'm feeling like Dash" — which is already most of the way to self-regulation, because naming a state (even by proxy) is the first step in down-regulating it.
Try it today: next time your toddler is dysregulated, don't ask "how do you feel?" Ask "which Zumblie do you feel like right now?" It's a lower bar to clear, and it works because color and shape recognition outpaces emotional vocabulary in early childhood.
